Yes, all beaches in Cancun are technically public by Mexican law, meaning you can access them at no charge. Playa Caracol is another family-friendly option with gentle currents, though restrooms and showers are only available to hotel guests at that location. Cancun does experience Sargassum seaweed arrivals annually from April through August, when it can pile up along the shoreline and in the water. Beachfront hotels and resorts clear the sand daily, but seaweed can still be present in the water during peak months. From November through March, the beaches are largely clear and the water is pristine. Arriving at Cancun beaches before 9 AM gives you the best choice of spots under free palapas, especially at Playa Delfines where shade fills up fast. Midday from 11 AM to 2 PM brings the strongest sun and the largest crowds, particularly during peak season from December through April. We found late afternoon around 4 to 6 PM to be a sweet spot for cooler temperatures and fewer people.
