Welcome to Cozumel
A gorgeous tropical island just off the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula (across from Playa del Carmen), Cozumel has some of the most beautiful waters in the Riviera Maya and is a top beach and diving destination.
Like many tropical island destinations, Cozumel is an excellent place to relax and have a drink while looking out at the crystal blue Caribbean waters. Rastas Freedom in Paradise Bar
Famous for opening early (10 am) and staying open until they feel like closing, this place has quintessential reggae beach bar status. Thatched roofs, excellent views, and hammocks for lounging away the day.
It is located in the southern area of the island, so you’ll need to drive yourself or get a taxi. It is approximately 25-30 minutes south of town center.
Welcome To Miami
This favorite spot on the wild east side now has a twin near downtown! But for authentic beach bar action, complete with sand in your toes, ocean views, palapas and hammocks, the original on the far side of the island is still our choice. Sometimes called “The Mojito Factory”, Welcome to Miami uses the freshest fruits and ingredients and makes your cocktail right in front of you with mortar and pestles and love. Try thier specialty cocktails, the Papa Secret or the Mama Secret… you will not be sorry.
Sky Reef
Feeling like a bit of a snorkel to break up your day drinking? Sky Reef is your place. The open-air structure here has the perfect balance of shade to sun options and has a well-maintained dock to get in and out of the glittering waters for your snorkel adventure. Outdoor showers are also available when you need to rinse off all that glorious saltwater. Oh, and of course, whatever cocktail you’re craving can be easily and quickly produced by the ready and waiting staff.
A lovely location on the west side of the island allows for nice views of the water. It is only about 15 minutes south from town center and the ferry terminal.
Hemmingway
For a taste of Bali in Cozumel, there is no more chic a place than Hemmingway. Just north of town, Hemmingway has spectacular wood and bamboo cabanas, sofa areas, indoor open air lounge areas, swinging benches and more. While the food is average, the cocktails and atmosphere are absolutely a step above. Come at sunset and Hemmingway’s is a feast for the senses. Did we mention how cool this place is?!
La Monina
Another great place for a sundowner on the north-west side of the island (next door to Hemingways), La Monina is just a long, seaside walk or a short taxi ride from town center. This unassuming local’s haunt has fabulous offerings on food and drinks, loungers on the sand and a gorgeous patio for sunset views. The friendly staff is always ready to bring you your next round. A great place for a casual date, meeting up with friends or simply enjoying the view solo.
Mezcalito’s Last Frontier
If you want to drink like a local this is the place to come. The staff here are beyond friendly and make you feel as though you have been coming here for years. The perfect spot for a bucket of beers or margarita fueled lunch. Fresh ceviches, seafood, nachos and more.
Located on the “wild” East Coast of the island so we suggest renting a car or calling a taxi to make your way to this remote paradise. Around 20-25 minutes from San Miguel town center.
No Name Bar
This seaside bar is laid back and casual to the max. Easily walkable from town, this is the place to go whenever the mood strikes. A great place to meet people and make new friends. Take a dip in the pool (YES there’s a swim-up bar) or jump into the sea for a quick snorkel. Cold drinks, yummy snacks and the cool blue sea are at your beck and call.
These all look great! I’m excited to visit Welcome to Miami for their mojitos.
We loved Money Bar and we probably would not have even known about it without this guide. We spent a lot of time at La Monina also as it was walkable from our hotel. 😉
FREEDOM!!! Thanks to this post, we found our happy place! As soon as we read about this place we knew it was perfect for our crew. We went basically right after we arrived on the island and if we could have camped there we would’ve. Thanks so much for writing this. Awesome guide.
Thank you Thank you! It is always so hard to get the low down on a really great place to get a drink when you arrive in a new place. Let’s be honest it’s everyones first destination! Thank you Island Life Mexico, you have saved my vacation life some seriously precious time!
