The Top Neighborhoods

  CENTRO / PLAYA NORTE

In colorful Centro you’ll find the heartbeat of the island, and this is where everything happens on the Isla Mujeres. Centro has hotels, restaurants, beaches, and more. This four block by six block city center is at the northern end of the island and most places are easily walkable.

  MID-ISLAND BAY AREA

In the center of the island, the Mid-Island Bay Area is where the various residential “colonias” are located, but there are also numerous rentals available as well. For those looking to immerse themselves in local culture and live like a local, the Mid-Island Bay Area is perfect. You’ll have to take a taxi to restaurants and beaches in the northern Centro / Playa Norte areas though.

ISLAND LIFE TRAVEL TIP : GET TRAVEL INSURANCE

When planning an international vacation, Travel Insurance is a must in our opinion. Since your health insurance likely doesn’t cover you while outside of the country, travel insurance makes sure if you accidentally break a bone or get food poisoning, your medical needs are covered. Travel insurance also typically covers you for trip cancellation, lost or stolen luggage (it happens), Covid issues, flight delays, missed connections and more. We think it’s a no brainer and should be factored into any international trip budget. You can easily compare the top-rated travel insurance plans here.

VPN’s are easily installed App services that protect all your internet use, from emails to web searches. The most secure and easy to use (in our honest opinion) is NordVPN which is inexpensive and top-rated in the industry. You can check it out here.
